6 Practical Tips for Summer Parenting

6 Practical Tips for Summer Parenting 6 Practical Tips for Summer Parenting “I’m bored.” The dreaded and inevitable words most parents hear at some point during the summer break. For many working families, summer time isn’t always full of pool parties, trips to the playground or amusement park, and endless playdates. Children have a lot of free time on their hands and it can be overwhelming to maintain their day-to-day activities. So how can parents keep their children structured, organized and active in the summer months? Schedule fun. Together with your children, come up with your summer “bucket list” or list of activities the family wants and can afford to do this summerâ€"trip to the zoo, beach vacation, backyard camping adventure, etc. Next, map out the activities on a calendar so the children know exactly when their adventures will take place. This will give them something to look forward to. Resist the urge to overschedule. During the school year, parents know exactly when and where their kids will be each day. When it comes to the summer, parents often feel a need to schedule every minute of the day from drama camp to soccer practice to carpools to the park. While having a consistent routine is important, it’s also imperative to allow time for unstructured downtime. Set aside time each day. The biggest mistake parents can make is getting caught up in all of those posts and pictures of other parents’ summer activities on social media. Your child doesn’t need a Martha Stewart or Pinterest worthy activity, all they need is a loving connection with you. So, whether it’s running through the sprinkler together, roasting marshmallows in the backyard or even just counting the stars on a blanket before bedtime, do at least one thing a day to connect and have fun. Encourage your child to try something new this summer. There’s no time like the summer to encourage your child to try a new activity. Maybe he wants to take swimming lessons, or a painting class, take-up a new sport or attend a summer camp. New activities encourage brain development and build your child’s focus and creativity. But remember, don’t go overboard in the scheduling of activities! Limit technology.  When it’s hot outside and kids are bored, screen time has a way to swallowing up all of their time. Parents can easily fall into the trap of technology becoming the babysitter. Replace that screen time with daily reading and regular trips to the library. Books open the imagination and creativity in every child. Create structure and set boundaries. Summer routines are sure to be different than school routines, but it’s important to remember the necessity of routines. Children need to be freed of the tight structure of the school year, but they also need the security of knowing that some things will remain the same. Keep the same bedtime, maintain the same chore schedule, etc. You can easily discourage behavioral problems by ensuring a structured environment. Land that Internship Today

Land that Internship Today Photo by Garfield Anderssen via Flickr.comConnectionsBelieve it or not, but you have connections you may not know about. I highly recommend joining a networking social media, like LinkedIn, to help expand your professional network. This also helps you reach out to those alumni from your school who want to help you find a job/internship. Also, stop by your university’s career center, they can help get you in contact with the alumni that could have internships available for you.Social MediaThis is a key factor in whether or not you will land an interview for an internship. Many companies now have a contract with Facebook that grants them access to your profile, regardless if the privacy settings are on. I highly suggest cleaning up your Facebook or Twitter of anything that does not scream professional or your personality. You want to have your persona showcased in your social media, employers want to see the kind of person you are outside of work; however, there should be no pictures of you partying or statuses of you cursing anywhere on your profile.Interview ProcessSay you get a phone call and they would like you to come in for an interview, research the business and know what they stand for. People always make the common mistake to not research the company and walk in with no questions. You may be the one being interviewed, but you are also expected to interview the employer. Come up with questions for them, this will show you stand out and have a passion for working with them. Dress appropriately, I know this may sound like common sense but recent studies have found that people do not land their internship/job due to not wearing professional clothing. After the interview, write them a thank you letter, regardless if it went well or horribly. This shows professionalism and they will remember you, which will help in the future if they ever decide to hire you later on.Lastly, the most important thing to do is be yourself. Employers know when you are faking an attitude, they know when you may be twisting the truth a little; just don’t. Act as natural as you can, and remember to keep your wits and confidence about you. Confidence is the number one best characteristic employers look for. They want to hire someone who knows what they want to do and has a passion for it. Good luck with everything!

A New Career in Computer Science

A New Career in Computer ScienceA Computer Science tutor is one of the most important resources that a new or aspiring computer student can use to help ensure that they are achieving all of their goals. By engaging in hands-on practice with various course modules, a computer science student can more effectively prepare for the tests and projects that will be required. When you want to take an online course, there are a number of advantages that you can enjoy with online learning, including the ability to work from home, and the ability to interact with people across the globe at your own pace. While this can be a great benefit, you may not necessarily require this in order to receive a degree. However, you will likely want to have your certification on hand for potential employers. In addition to training and certification, a Yale University Computer Science Tutor will help you achieve the success you are seeking. While this does not mean that you cannot pursue a Master's degree, it certainly can help to reduce the amount of time you spend in school, and it can also help you gain more employability skills as you enter the workforce. Finally, if you plan to earn a degree online, you may be concerned about the cost of online courses. While there are a variety of online courses that will offer complete access to course materials, they typically cost more than traditional courses because of the sheer size of the course, and they will often come with a hefty price tag. However, by choosing a reputable computer science tutor, you can work with the m to get an affordable tuition, and in the end you will be able to receive the skills and education that you need in order to be successful in your chosen field.

How Do I Avoid Making Another Bad Job Choice - Introvert Whisperer

Introvert Whisperer / How Do I Avoid Making Another Bad Job Choice - Introvert Whisperer How Do I Avoid Making Another Bad Job Choice? Dorothy March 2, 2016 Career Development, Self-Promotion 2 responses More than half of the population really can’t stand their job right now.  That’s not a change; it’s a fairly constant statistic.  It’s also very sad to think that the majority of people spend so much time of each day being somewhat miserable.  The concern many of those same people have is leaving one bad situation only to jump into another one equally as bad. How do so many of us make such bad job choices?  And is there anything we can do to avoid another bad decision? Let’s look at some of the causes of bad job decisions: No real thinking or planning.  Countless people want a great job and career but put less thought to planning their career than planning a vacation.  Really?  You need to spend time thinking through your direction and how you will get there.  This should be an ongoing process throughout your career life. This needs to include the elements of what you want in a great job and work environment. Not very deliberate.  When you speak to enough people about how they found their job, you will hear many endless stories about “I just wanted to find something”.  With that kind of a strategy, you will find something, but it might not be worth finding.  Give some thought to what job or work environment would be best for you then pursue that job. Nothing focused.  Too infatuated.  Admit it; you love people who love you.  When you get recruited it’s a very heady experience and difficult to resist.  Even if we aren’t recruited but simply “chosen” from the masses of other competitors, it’s flattering and we feel irresistibly drawn to that employer.  Notice the romantic references because the process is very much like being courted.  It’s hard to say “NO”.  If this is happening, be aware of it and give yourself a breather so you can think straighter. Here are some things you can do to help you make good job decisions: Do your homework.  Even if you have done your career planning and are about to take the next well-planned step in your career, you have to do some research about the people and group with whom you are interviewing.  You need to understand how the group works and what kind of culture exists.  While you will never find out everything until you work in the group, you can find enough information to give you some idea of “how things really work”.  You want to have some idea of how the manager operates and the culture.  More than anything else, these two elements shape how well you will like your job. Seek good counsel.  When we get a job offer, of course, we’re excited and want to share that news with others.  We don’t often think to seek the counsel of someone who knows us and is willing to ask us the tough questions to help make this decision as good as it can be.  Other people see things we don’t always see about the job, employer and ourselves.  Before jumping ahead, we need someone who will be open, honest and ask us the good questions. Don’t ignore your instincts.  We all have them, and all too often we blow them off.  Pay attention to what your “gut” is telling you about this job opportunity, because it’s probably right. Don’t let your fears dictate your choices.  If you have a history of making some bad career decisions, go back to your history to figure out what you could have known better ahead of time.  Don’t let your history be your primary decision driver.  Learn from your mistakes and let that knowledge help guide you to a great decision this time. Think of your career decision-making abilities like increasing a skill set that needs to be developed or improved.  If you plan your career, give each move some thought and do your homework, the outcome will be better than ever before. Do you know what your next career step is?   Many people don’t. How Introverts Can Survive and Enjoy Business Travel - Introvert Whisperer

Introvert Whisperer / How Introverts Can Survive and Enjoy Business Travel - Introvert Whisperer How Introverts Can Survive and Enjoy Business Travel Some people thrive on business travel, while it can be a nightmare for others. Especially when it comes to introverts, a busy work schedule can be challenging enough without adding travel into the mix. However, being an introvert does not mean you can’t do certain things and even enjoy them. It simply means that you need to approach them differently. For instance, airports and airplanes can be very crowded spaces, and even just the thought of driving somewhere unfamiliar is enough to get the heart racing. It is important that you plan for what you need to survive and even make your trip enjoyable. One of the keys is to communicate clearly to your employer how travel makes you feel and what you need to be successful. For air travel specifically, you might need to travel to your destination a day early to acclimate, or fly business class rather than coach to give yourself the space you need (you can even offer to pay for the upgrade yourself if need be). Plan activities for yourself on the trip, and try to get some time alone if possible. Besides communicating well, here are a few simple steps you can take to survive and enjoy business travel as an introvert. Get the Right Gear When it comes to flying, especially a long flight, having the right gear can make all of the difference. If you are traveling across the country or internationally, you will need to be prepared. Frequent business travelers carry a lot of the same items with them every single time, and there are some essentials you simply can’t do without. A neck pillow: It may seem silly, but the pillows they have on the plane are nearly useless, besides the germs they might carry. Get your own travel neck pillow to keep yourself comfortable when you fall asleep. An empty water bottle: No, you can’t bring a full one through security, but an empty one is fine, and many airports have water bottle filling stations at their water fountains. This a good way to stay hydrated, but not too hydrated (airplane bathrooms are often another introvert nightmare). Headphones: Yes, you will need to bring your own entertainment unless you want to pay for movies on the plane, or be stuck watching whatever they are showing. Corded ones are the best, as you don’t need to recharge them (meaning you also don’t need to carry an extra cord). Noise cancelling ones will work best to shut out the airplane world that can be so overwhelming. Backup power supply: This is just in case your laptop, tablet, or phone needs some extra juice while you are on the plane. Sleeping mask/sleep aids: Want to sleep on the flight? You may need a sleep aid, and even a sleeping mask to block out the ambient light, even on a night flight. You may also want a blanket in case you tend to get cold. The more gear you have of your own, the less reliant you are on the airline to provide you with the things you need, or even worse, having to buy them in the airport, which is always expensive. If you travel often for work, have a “go” bag where you keep all of your travel needs in one place. You can then just literally grab it and go. Get Your Mind in the Right Place One of the main obstacles as an introvert is getting your mind right when you are headed into a potentially stressful situation. Anxiety can cause physical symptoms, making your flight and travel even harder to endure. One way to do this is to put your extrovert face on. This is the one introverts use when they have to deal with customers or coworkers. Often your voice gets louder, you will say things you would not normally say, and you’ll also seem more extraverted than you actually are. How to do this varies by person, but often a moment of meditation or even just some deep breathing will help. Also, consider things that relax you. You can’t bring a candle, but you can bring small vials of essential oils, and scents like lavender can help relax you, while even supporting your mental well-being. Massage oils into your feet, temples, and your wrists to get it into your body, and rub some on your hands and inhale the aroma from time to time. This is a natural way to keep yourself mentally calm. Take Time for You Before and After This is perhaps the most important part: take some time alone before, after, and even during your trip if you can. Find an hour when little is going on or you have a break between meetings and take a nap, do some yoga, or even just go for a walk. Many hotels have gyms where you can work out, and they are usually not crowded during the day. Before you travel, take half a day and do something for yourself. Get a massage, spend some time alone reading, but try to charge your batteries for the social interactions you know are coming. When you get home, do the same thing. This may require scheduling your flights differently or modifying your work schedule. Do it. It’s important. Business travel does not have to be a nightmare for introverts, and can even be enjoyable with the right planning, the right gear, and by taking some time for yourself. How To Find Cooking Classes Or A Cooking Tutor

How To Find Cooking Classes Or A Cooking Tutor How To Find Cooking Classes ChaptersWhere To Start? The Learning ProcessTypes of Cooking ClassesHow To Choose The Right Cooking Course Or Tutor For YouFood occupies a large slice of our daily life: we think about it, spend time either cultivating or selecting and purchasing food; preparing it and consuming it. As such, that doesn’t sound like one of humans’ better qualities, that is until you think about food as more than sustenance.Food can be a peace maker, a bridge builder and an art form. What we eat and how we eat it â€" cooked or raw, bland or spicy, the blending of dairy and meat; eating with or without utensils (and what those utensils are) could be interpreted as a reflection of our moral values, heritage and culture. On the flipside of that coin: food is a science â€" which method of preparation yields the most appeal, the best taste and the maximum number of nutrients?Today, we look at cooking classes London. Not just those that reflect our customs and cravings but those from cultures and social mov ements around the world.Themed courses might include how to host a dinner party for your boss, workers or colleagues. You may kick off the summer season by learning how to barbecue, greet the fall by enroling in a stew or chowder class and brighten the winter with hearty, stick-to-the-ribs meals learned from a local chef or passionate foodie. And then, there is specialty cooking:gluten free cookingvegetarian and vegan cookinghow to make fresh pastathe art of preparing sushihow to create quick, effortless yet tasty weeknight mealsthe secrets of Mediterranean herbs and Indian spiceshow bake artisan breadpastry art: making patisserie-worthy croissants, petit fours and other tasty treatsAh, the selections are endless! You could learn how to recreate traditional Spanish recipes like paella or learn how to balance the textures and flavours of the Greek moussaka. And how about a zesty Oriental stir-fry?Other food or sommelier related courses might include wine tastings, how to throw a great dinner party or preparing finger foods. You may also consider hosting a mystery party.Imagine an Agatha Christie tale - Murder on the Orient Express or The Mirror Crack'd, brought to life through your exquisite planning!Mystery dinners are a very popular form of entertainment across the pond. Rather than being spectators, all of the dinner guests are active in the role-play and food plays a part in the festivities as well!Naturally, hosting such a party would be a very ambitious and complex undertaking, and planning the menu to complement the event takes some skill... skills you could easily pick up in a cooking class! For more detailed information on selecting the best cooking class or teacher for your needs, why not take a look at Superprof's tips on How To Choose The Best Cooking Tutor? The Learning ProcessThe Self-Taught MethodWhether you have always been a foodie or cooking enthusiast, or your culinary abilities have for some time been a bit lacking, you can refine and build on y our existing skills or learn how to cook from scratch in one of two ways: teaching yourself or signing up for a cooking course or two.By adopting a self-taught method, you will  experiment and learn as you go.  Naturally, we hope for your success  but you should be prepared for a few setbacks: experimentation is not necessarily wholly effective, nor it is an easy learning experience.Still, you should be rewarded for your courage and, if a few dishes end up a little more crispy than intended, well, that is simply the price one pays for being more than a bit daring.  What if you suffer critics? Dinner guests who are less than complimentary of your Burnt Boeuf Bourguignon? By all means, invite them to join you in a culinary arts class or invite them to teach you! No need to withstand criticism that a REAL chef would never make the mistakes you made...With that said, now, the upside of being a self-taught chef...Discovering and developing culinary skills on your own implies you are poss essed of a sense of adventure - yes, cooking can be thought of in that way!Besides that, it shows you really are committed to learning from sources like books and tutorials which can result in more unique culinary ideas and methods.  That can be all the more satisfying to know that you discovered techniques and tastes all by yourself.Of course, you’ll need to have some basic cooking skills up your sleeve upon which to build. No one is ever really alone on their journey to culinary excellence. Most people have been taught to cook by a loved one, and often have fond memories of times spent in the kitchen, learning about food. You should check out these cooking classes near me!Many people will have spent time in the kitchen with a parent or grandparent. Photo credit: Daniel Bachhuber on Visual HuntRegardless of how you have become the chef you are today - or how you intend to become the chef you've always wanted to be, you should embrace other people's comments, suggestions and even c riticism.  Among other reasons, this is what will make you a better cook.Think about this: some people yearn to be a chef so that they can please others with their culinary creations. How can you expect to do that if nobody ever gives you feedback? The food industry relies heavily on inspiration, on developing new taste sensations and yes, on criticism.Naturally, we understand that not everyone has the desire to learn to cook  with their eye on becoming an amazing, internationally-recognised chef adorned with Michelin stars - and suffer criticism along the way.For most aspiring chefs, the ultimate goal is simply to be able to cook a nice meal for their loved ones or their date, or to find the confidence to prepare satisfying weeknight meals from scratch. For that practical outcome, you can rest assured: even a beginner's cooking course will fill you with confidence and the desire to cook tasty meals the whole family will enjoy! The Modern-Day Kitchen AssistantAs a self-taught kitchen master, you may be looking for resources to increase your culinary prowess. The Internet is a great outlet for learning any new skill, including cooking. Type in the right query and your favourite search engine will yield  an array of information, instructions, videos and recipes. You could even type in the wrong query and get results for dishes you never thought of!The best part about  incorporating online learning into your kitchen forays is that you have a multitude of recipes, chefs and knowledge, delivering the goods, right to your kitchen!By contrast, a cooking class might only present you with one instructor, one type of cuisine - French, Mediterranean, homestyle... and you are limited to what your instructor teaches.  That's not to say that cooking courses don't have their value; we'll talk about that shortly! If you search online for recipes or cooking instruction, you are sure to find a range of related articles, like foods you should learn to cook in your twenties, skills e very cook should know, basic recipes to learn or learning how to cook by yourself (with pictures), to name but a few. What about learning how to cook by watching cooking shows on the telly? You could argue that watching world-famous chefs cooking on the screen can teach you a lot about cooking methods, which wouldn't be far wrong. The biggest issue with such shows is that they are edited for time. You won't always get to see the chef ply his/her skills; in fact s/he is functioning more as a presenter than a teacher.  And you can't stop and start a television programme as you could a video, so that you can better follow along!Besides, there’s really absolutely nothing like working with food first-hand!  Smelling the aromas as you are grilling, frying, simmering or baking and seeing how your concoctions look, feel and taste  when you serve them.Is your mouth watering? If so, get on down to your local culinary arts school  in time to enrol in your first cooking course! The Taught MethodE specially if you are a novice in the kitchen, best way to learn cooking fundamentals  is to attend a class.
